      HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 29 (AP) – J. G. (Jerry) Mayer, 56, manager of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, died today. He was a brother of Louis B. Mayer, M-G-M vice president.

      Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., Jerry Mayer became a deep sea diver in 1903 and by 1919 he operated a salvage company, a street railway, a brass foundry and a steel company. Later he joined his brother in management of Louis’ first theatrical enterprise in Haverhill, Mass.

      He came to Hollywood in 1922 as manager of Louis Mayer’s first studio and had been with M-G-M since its founding in 1924.
